Mischievous in the sight of God

 

Psalm 28:3 (MSG),3 Don’t shove me into the same jail cell with those crooks, With those who are full-time employees of evil;” Psalm 140:2 (MSG),2All they do is think up new ways to be bad; they spend their days plotting war games.

Mischievous seems a harmless sophomoric term, but whatever state of our heart of hearts determines our relationship with God.  In this case our hearts are “hateful to God” in our seemingly harmless motives, speech and actions.

We all know someone who is constantly plotting for more… the bible says they are “employees of evil.”  Jail or some sort of incarceration is inevitable for those who are always “thinking of ways to be bad.”  Even our national security towards our fellow human beings is dangerously close to the sin of “being hateful towards God.”

“The psalmist uttered harsh imprecations on the wicked who sought to poison and ensnare him with their vicious devices. He spoke these imprecations in full confidence that the Lord would secure justice for the afflicted against their attacks. This is the substance of his opening prayer.”

We must be aware of our selfish needs even when eminent danger is upon us.  The Psalmist offered up selfish imprecatious prayers, but we must steer clear of this type of prayer unless you/we are absolutely convinced of our sinless spiritual condition in the presence of the Lord!  Mischievousness is spiritual folly for those “Developing their Hearts for God!
