This book is full of details of Germany from 1920’s to early 1930’s, Roth remembers or imagines a young boy playing in the street, a girl in the window and a man picking up a piece of paper and cigarette butts.
Roth believed it is more valuable to notice the boy, policeman or the girl in the window than to forget that mankind’s greatness is attributed to its parts.

The sinful hear…

The sinful heart was:

Hateful to God-Prov. 6:16, 18; Prov. 11:20

16 There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him;  20 The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight.

When we think of what we have been delivered from, we need to make sure we see it as God sees it, the Book of Ecclesiastes calls it “folly;” it is the term used to describe how “hateful” our nature is against God.

To our amazement and terror, there are some psychopathic/ sociopathic characteristics in most of us that can draw out the worst even in God; Hate!  God can hate some of our issues, we need to be mindful of the person of God, He loves the sinner, but hates sin!

Our sinful heart should always be reserved and controlled.  Scripture teaches us that certain personality traits are an abomination to God.  Pride is number one, Proverb 16:5, “Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished,” Pride is referred to as “Haughty eyes;” Number 2, Liars (a lying tongue)  for those of us who have decided to use lying as a tool to get your needs met take heed!            Revelation 22:15 “Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”  This next one is of the ultimate importance since the 1980’s; killers, or murders are especially an abomination to God, “and hands that shed innocent blood.”

“Eve Surgical Center at 10150 National Boulevard has been open for killing unborn babies since the 1980s. It was first run by Dr. James McMahon, who had no specialty training and boasted that he “developed” the Partial Birth Abortion method.

In a 1990 Los Angeles Times feature article, reporter Karen Tumulty provided this description: McMahon has developed his own method that he calls intrauterine cranial decompression. He arranges the fetus so that he can remove it feet first. Before the skull emerges, he “collapses” it by inserting a three-millimeter instrument known as a cannula and extracting its fluid. By keeping the fetus intact, he says, he runs less risk of internal injury to the woman.

“I want to deal with the head last, because that’s the biggest problem,” he adds levelly. “From my point of view, the fetus is a potential problem to the patient.”  “Frankly,” he adds, “I don’t think I was any good at all until I had done 3,000 or 4,000!”[1]

And these do not even include the nation’s annual murder rates!  However, when I checked the data I was gratefully surprised to see that homicide rates had actually declined since 1980; you see God is real, living and working among us!

“…Overall, the U.S. has experienced a significant drop in the total homicide rate since 1980. In 1980, the U.S. homicide rate hovered at 10.2 per 100,000 residents, more than twice the current homicide rate. In the early 1980s, the homicide rate gradually fell for a few years but rose again beginning in the middle of the decade, peaking at an all-time high of 24,703 homicides in 1991. Since the homicide rate spiked in the early 1990s, it subsequently declined, reaching a four-decade low last year.”[2]

These are some of the reasons that God intervened in humanities lives, because we will without God, and with satan’s influence kill ourselves as if it is actually acceptable.  Verse 18 “A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil,” both of the above excerpts can also fall under these two verses also.

It is heart breaking but, we run to the abortionist when our underage girls get pregnant, or if we just do not want the new responsibility!  Likewise our skilled professionals, doctors, lawyers etc. use their expertise to build an industry around these catastrophe’s and society follows along because of its powerlessness, and lack of biblical knowledge  just as Israel observed Solomon’s doctrines when he followed his foreign wives!

Verse 19 “A false witness who utters lies,”[3] We all have told “little white lies” and may have even concocted elaborate and deliberate and imaginative stories to cover some mistake or to cover for someone else.  What I am alluding to is that we can all relate to the concept of lying, which should lead us to find reasons to pray and ask for forgiveness for our part and intercede on behalf of loved ones especially kids and young adults,

“…And one who spreads strife among brothers,”   What is strife?  It is a “Vigorous or bitter conflict, discord, or antagonist.”  We all know someone who by their very nature or lack of savvy that always keeps something going on!  Not something good but bad, and bad for whoever gets caught in the mist of the lies, gossip, and misunderstanding or outright traps that were deliberately set for the unsuspecting believer.

This message is a first step to understanding our own negative potential.  Yes it is true we all are capable to one degree or another of committing one or many of these abominable acts against one another.  God knows this and offers His grace by telling us ahead of time of our own propensities.  And urges us against these things; and indirectly informs us that our love of Him is the ideal motive and method to apprehend these harmful tendencies.  What do we do?

Develop your Heart for God:

The consequence is that even if we stopped all or any of the bad behaviors, we can still understand how they can come about.  That is the flaw in our human nature.  Our “fallen” nature justifies God’s action of warning us about ourselves and instituting penalties.  Incidentally there are penitentiaries filled with inmates who impulsively committed horrendous crimes or just conned and stole for a living.  God “Hates” this!  Now that we know this, we have incentive to check every motive before we find ourselves in a jam that can consume us or someone we love.
